Assassin's Creed II is a free-to-play action game, very similar to its predecessor in concept and gameplay. The play takes place in Florence, Venice, Rome, and other locations in Italy. In addition to literary characters, the game features famous historical figures from the era, such as Leonardo da Vinci, Niccolò Machiavelli, Cesare Borgia, and others, who embody the game's story. The play depicts the cultural and political reality of the Italian Renaissance through fictionalized accounts of events, other stories, and metaphysical ideas. The basic gameplay is the same as that of the previous game. The protagonist can freely explore several large cities and the countryside on foot or horseback. Swimming and boating are also possible in the game. Almost all buildings are climbable, and the protagonist can enter the tallest buildings and enjoy panoramic views from an eagle's eye view. Jumping and running are an essential part of the game. One of the most notable additions is the currency system, which was not available in the first game. Items, weapons, and armor can be purchased from shops and repaired for money. Weapons can be recovered from fallen enemies and used in battle. Vast riches can also be collected from across the game world.
