Slime Rancher is a ranching simulator growing these slimy substances is impossible on Earth, so they are as valuable as gold. The heroine guards and manages the slime population, breeding new species and protecting existing ones from enemy slimes that were bred incorrectly. The girl explores the planet, searches for treasure, expands her territory, works in the lab, and occasionally communicates with her friend.
>Normal slimes are different species that feed on different foods, interbreed with each other, and can evolve into more profitable Largos. There are Puddle, Fire, Bliss, and Gold types. Some have spines and emit radiation, which can be dangerous to the user. Largos are large hybrids that produce 2-4 plorts of the original creatures.
>They travel through local regions, and some are wild and dangerous to the player.
>Gordo slimes are harmless, large, and immobile, composed of many smaller types. Slime keys and resources can be found inside. They are lured by traps.
>Varr are an angry, large, black slime that appears when a Largo slime eats an alien plort. Varr can be countered by draining fresh water from bodies of water.
>The game takes place in the Unlimited Outlands, where the player discovers new areas, crafts various devices in the lab, discovers treasures, and buys toys for their pets. The world map is divided into regions that are opened using slime keys. Creatures are collected using a backpack vacuum cleaner while venturing into the wild.
