A pair of research scientists help dying people regain memories of events they dreamed of in To the Moon. In the adventure game, employees of the Sigmund company have learned to implant artificial memories in people, allowing them to experience what they never experienced in their entire lives. The story centers on Johnny, a man who has always dreamed of going to the Moon.
>Neil Watts is one of the protagonists, a childish middle aged scientist. The doctor enjoys joking, acting rashly, and is sometimes a bit of a coward.
>Eva Rosalyn is the researcher's partner. A dark skinned woman distinguished by her seriousness and deliberate actions, she is sentimental and occasionally does stupid things with Neil.
>John Wiles is the second protagonist, River's husband, who desires to go to the Moon.
Joey Wiles is his twin brother, who was accidentally hit by a car by his mother.
>Martha is the brothers' mother, who, traumatized by her son's death, names her living twin after the dead one. River is the protagonist's late wife, who suffers from Asperger's syndrome.
Nicholas is John's friend.
>Isabelle is the protagonist's friend who suffers from a similar condition but struggles with it. She lives with her husband, Ted.
Lily Quinn is the protagonist's maid who lives in his house with his children, Tommy and Sarah.
In the near future, a wish fulfillment agency is created that grants just one wish a couple of hours before death. The agency's employees use a special device that allows them to immerse themselves in memories. They make the wish come true, and the device recalculates the life, implanting updated data into the brain. This is what doctors Eve and Neil do. One day, John comes to the researchers, dreaming of a long journey. The player experiences the protagonist's life, only in reverse. The player learns that the character had previously had no interest in this celestial body and understands why the old man wanted to go there. Great attention to detail is paid there are numerous paper rabbits scattered across the house floor, and a platypus constantly following a man who demands to be called Johnny. The player primarily wanders through locations in search of items that synchronize with different memory locations, periodically solving puzzles.
